  1. Victims have all the rights as a normal citizen. All victims should have to right to a protective restraining order. Certain victims, need more protection though. Some victims may need a police officer at their house for protection. I think that as a Congressman for the south Mr. Rahall could povide more funding for protection. For example, there are some cases that need more than a protective restraining order. He could also make sure that the conditions of the order is being followed. I think as a citizen, I am in a place to where I am using my resources and writing my congressman to help victims.

  2. I think the victam has all the rights they want. They should be able to do the same thing that happen to them. Heres an example. Like if I got beat up . I should have the right to beat the other person up. Just like back in the day if you stold something you got your hand cut off so you couldn’t still no more. The congreeman needs to past the law that it would be okay to do what I was talking about or pushinish them even more. I can help by going around holding up signs saying an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

  3. Dear Mr. McKinley, I believe that victims have the right to prosecute their attackers. I feel this way because it’s only fair. If you are put in an unsafe situation yet you have the opportunity to be able to prevent it from happening again, why not? People are prosecuted for doing something wrong, so they get sent away for a while. Then they serve their time and are free again. Now what? Nothing is preventing that person from going back out and doing it again. I feel that you should be able to get restraining orders and actually have the law make sure this is being followed. Victims should have more rights than they do. It seems like the attackers get more rights than the victims in my opinion.

  4. I think that victims should have the right to have some say in what happens to the suspect. The victim should be able to have a protective restraining order on the suspect. It should be able to actually be inforced and the victim should be protected. Usually the cops don’t even really care a whole lot about that stuff and that’s not right. The congressman could enforce laws that make sure victims are safe. The congreesman could also make it to where the police actually do their jobs instead slacking off and not caring what happens to people. All I could really do is call the cops or even the congressman when in need. It takes more than one person to make a difference. All I can do is shine a light and hope that peopl e will see it and follow…

  5. Dear Mr. McKinley,
I believe that all victims should have rights. They should be able to stand up for what they believe. Congress could help by passing laws to get them their rights, especially for those people who cannot defend themselves. I can help by educating people, and honoring the victims so they are not forgotten.
    Sincerely yours Melanie

  6. Dear Mr. Rahall,
I just want you to know that dating violence occurs frequently and under no cirrcumstances should it be overlooked, even though you already may be aware of that. Victims of such an event should have the right to a restraining order, appear in court of law, long-term lock up if minor, and at least five years of serving jail time if an adult. Victims also should have the right to free counseling sessions if they would like. Congressman should take action in all they possibly can to help West Virginia become a safer and less fearful environment to live in. Also, I would love to help in any way I can to prevent such things from happening. Thanks so very much for taking the time to look over this and hopefully consider some of the things I have mentioned.
    Sincerely, Sabrina J.

  7. Dear Mr Mikinley,
I believe that the victim should have rights also, just as the suspect should have the right to prove himself innocent.-

  8. Ms. Capito,
I believe that dating violence victims should have the right to fight back without consequences to an extent. It is the simple fact that if they are getting the heck beat out of them and the only way to defend themselves, is to grab the closest thing next to them to get the abuser off of them; to me it should be allowed. I was beat by my Ex for 2 ½ yrs and if I would have fought back to the point where the law was call he wouldn’t be the only one with charges, I would have charges too for assault. I believe that they have the right to defend the themselves; they are just as much as a victim as a kid getting bullied in school. With a kid getting bullied in school it can cause them to hurt themselves really bad or someone else. You should only imagine what a victim of abuse is going though from someone that is their spouse. I hope you see my point.

  9. Dear Mr. Rahall
    Teen Violence

Victims have the right to get a restraining order, go to the cops for help, go somewhere safe, and talk to someone they trust for help. I think teen violence is very dangerous teens today fight for so much stuff like racism, bulling, drugs, and some fight to help there self’s in a bad situation but most of the time it’s for something dumb. The congressman can help if you write him a letter telling him what all has been going on. What can I do I can talk to the person that is going through this and get them some help.
    Child Abuse
If a child is getting abused they have the right to go to the cops about it, tell someone what has been happing, talk to someone they trust. Child abuse happens every day parents and babysitters abuse children all the time and most the time it’s because they are mad at the kids or they get aggravated with the kids or it can even be because they do drugs and they get violent with the kids. The congressman can help by if someone goes to them about what has been happing to these children out in this world and he can help in some way. What I can do I can get the kids away from their parents and get them help, go to cps or keep them somewhere safe.
    Dating Violence
If someone is getting abuse in a relationship they have the right to go to the cops and tell them what has been happening to you, go to someone you trust and ask them for help, or find a safe place to go where you won’t be around that stuff. The congressman can help by someone letting them know what has been going on and they do something about it. What can I do I can help them get out of the situation and go to someone for help.

  10. I think that crime victims should have the same rights as everyone else . The people of the U.S.A are so worried about them selfs and not others I just think that is wrong and unfair to the crime victims. They should have all the rights that are there but people say that they don’t really care and that they don’t wanna help and that not right. And that’s just what I think . and everyone is not perfect
