  1. The west test is used for many different reasons. For example, to get the federal funds for the schools. Also, so we can compare schools within the state. Another reason would be to see if the teachers within the school are teaching what they are suppose to be teaching.
The west test, tests in 5 different sections of education. Like, Math, Reading/Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and writing.
The state uses the West Test to test students in grades 3 – 11 .

We take the west test for different reasons. We take them for the government to get there money, for the teachers, and to see if the students are learning. We test in all the ciriculum areas like, science, reading, english, math, and social studies or history. Grades 3 through 11 take the west test now. It changes throghout the years.

  5. Why Do We Test?
We take the West Test to show the state what we have been taught and learned. It also shows the schools teacher’s capabilities of teaching students what they need to know for in the future. Money is also included in this every time we take this Major test.

    What We Test?
We test on English, Science, Writing, Reading, Math, and our basic Skills. The test is basically just a simple way to see what someone has learned or what someone has not learned and needs to. So not taking this test could seriously damage your classes for the next year as in they would put you in classes that you don’t need or are to low level for you to actually learn anything.

    Who Do We Test?
We test pretty much all grades excluding 12th graders because they are no longer going to be attending that high school the next year they are going to be going off to college where their GPA matters. Personally, I think this test is just a bunch of crap we really don’t need to take this test. If the state wanted to know how our grades and really cared about our grades and how were doing they can just pull up our grades from our school and be done with.

  8. Dear Mr. G we do the west test simply because, the state wants to learn where we are at on an educational level, and how well our schools are teaching us. We test the students in reading/ language arts, science, math and social studies. We test students from grades 3 to 12.
    Sincerely, Kendra

  9. 1) Why we do this?
West Virginia test results provide an indication of whether students are making progress toward mastery of state content standards. Test results are important for schools in West Virginia because the state uses them to identify strengths as well as areas for improvement. Although passing the WESTEST is not considered to be a requirement for graduation, some districts may use test results as a factor in determining grade level promotion or retention.

    2)What we test?
WESTEST results show the level of proficiency a student demonstrates in each of the subject areas tested. Students are rated at one of five performance levels: distinguished, above mastery, mastery, partial mastery and novice. Students who perform at the mastery level and above are considered proficient. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
    3) Who do we test?
In 2009-2010 West Virginia used the West Virginia Educational Standards Test 2 (WESTEST 2) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading, math and science, and grades 3 through 8 in social studies.
