  1. On November 20th, there was an explosion in a mine in Fairmont. It was early in the morning, around 5:30 AM. Many miners were injured during the explosion and 78 were trapped underground. No one knows the cause of the explosion. People think it was inedequate testing for methane.

This year, The small country of Haiti was devastated by an earthquake. The earthquake measured a 7 on the rictor scale. Many people slept in the streets after the eathquake. A lot of people ended up homeless. There are no building codes, so a lot of building were destroyed.

When hurrican Katrina occurred, it was the worst national disaster to ever hit America. many people were stranded on top of roofs without any food or way to escape. 1800 people died, and it is said that many more were never found. We are still rebuilding Katrina. There are people who are still effected by this disaster.

The similarities between these disasters are weird. Many people were lost and never found. They are all natural disasters. A lot of people were devastated by these occurrences. We can all learn something from these experiences.

This year is also maked with tragity. The tiny island country of Haiti was hit by an earth quake. It regestred an astounding 7.0. all ready nearly 170,000 body have been counted. almost all of Haitis resident have been left home less and hungry.
As you cna see thes disaster all have something in common death. People have died. Forn nothing more that chance. They are all unfortuinat . They are all unexpected

  4. The explosion that happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. on November 20, 1968, at the Consol No. 9. The explosion was large enough to be felt in Fairmont, almost twelve miles away.At the time, 99 miners were inside.

This mine was originally opened in 1909 as the Jamison No. 9 Mine, operated by the Jamison Coal and Coke Company.
Between 1911 and 1929, Jamison No. 9 produced over 100,000 tons per year, except in 1922, when production was just under 3000 tons.

At 5:30 a.m on November 20, an explosion shook the mine. It was so strong that a motel clerk reported feeling vibrations 12 miles away. Miners living in the area heard the noise and, knowing what it meant, headed to the mine, where they discovered a rapidly-spreading fire with flames shooting 150 feet into the air. Within hours, 21 miners made it to the surface but 78 were still trapped underground.

The fires continued to burn for over a week, and on November 29, rescuers finally admitted defeat after air samples from drill holes showed air unable to sustain human life. The mine was sealed on November 30 with concrete to starve the fire of oxygen.

  6. On Nov.28th,1968 99 miners were inside the pittsburgh coal seam in fairmont and an explosion occurred 21 miners escaped the other 78 miners were killed.

Hurricane katrina formed Aug.23rd,2005 and on monday Aug.29th it was catorigized as category 3 and it claimed at least 1,836 victims which is actually not that good.

The similarities between them are that they killed people and are somewhat terrifying to some who go through them. Many people lost their homes and the after affects caused a major clean up that is or was needed.

  14. In my opinion what doesnt kill you makes you stronger means that all the harder challenges in life that come at you will build your mentallity. When you lose a friend once you mourn alot when you lose a friend twice you mourn but move on. what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.

  15. There are many different things going on in Afganistan in 2010. Afganistan has been an on going event since October 7,2001.
The first phase of the war was the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, when the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom, to annihilate the safe haven to Al-Qaeda and its use of the Afghan territory as a base of operations for terrorist activities. The second operation is the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which was established by the UN Security Council at the end of December 2001 to secure Kabul and the surrounding areas.By the end of 2008, the Taliban had severed any remaining ties with al-Qaeda.On December 1, 2009, U.S. President Barack Obama announced that he would escalate U.S. military involvement by deploying an additional 30,000 soldiers over a period of six months. This is the past events that happend.

In early February Coalition and Afghan forces began highly visible plans for a possible offensive, codenamed Operation Moshtarak, on the Taliban stronghold near the village of Marja. Also, On January 26, 2010, at the International Conference on Afghanistan in London which brought together some 70 countries and organizations,Afghan President Hamid Karzai told world leaders that he intends to reach out to the top echelons of the Taliban within a few weeks with a peace initiative. This is what is currently going on in Afganistan.

In, conclusion all of these things are going on. I hope in the future that thing will change. I want people to help make things better not make things worse.

  16. I am the daughter of 1 of the 21 survivors from the #9 explosion. That day changed my father for life. Of the 21 survivors, 10 were above ground when the explosion happened. The other 11, my father being one, were trapped underground & had to be rescued by bucket dropped down through a shaft. "What did not kill him made him stronger" Thank you...
